Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What accommodation do you provide?

A: We have 10 cosy bedrooms which have been comfortably furnished and decorated. All rooms have twin beds and an attached bathroom with solar powered heated water, western style toilet and a sink. Most rooms have views over the lake. We provide fresh linens and a fluffy towel every time. Each room has a fan installed and mosquito nets in doors and windows. Lights in the rooms as well as in bathrooms have a solar back up so they work 24hr a day. The mains socket power follows the regular load shedding schedule as is common in Nepal.

Q: Can I have a single room?

A: In general we do not offer single accommodation, everyone needs to share a room and that's part of the fun as you get to make new friends and meet like-minded people. Many lasting friendships have started at Purna Yoga Retreat Centre.

Q: Is there any way to have guaranteed single accommodation for my stay?

A: Our Purna Yoga Ultimate Detox Retreat is the only program in our schedule that guarantees single accommodation.

If you need guaranteed single room during any of our retreat programs, please request this well in advance by contacting us at info@purnayoga.com.np and we will advise the additional cost involved.

Q: What is your check-in and check-out policy?

A: Check in starts from 3pm until 7pm on the day of you arrival. Late check in can be arrange upon prior notice. We will only hold your reserved space until 7pm if we don’t receive any prior request for late check in or information of your late arrival. After 7pm we will open the room for new bookings. Check out is after breakfast by 11am on the day of your departure.

Q: How many people will there be in the group?

A: Our centre has capacity for max 20 guests at a time so groups will never be bigger than that.

Q: On what date can I start my retreat program? Is there a schedule?

A: We run our retreat programs all year round simultaneously, which means that you can come to stay on any day that suits you.

It is highly recommended however to book in advance or just call ahead to let us know you're coming so we can confirm room availability for you. Especially the months of March, April and October, November are very busy so we recommend to make your booking well in advance for these months.

Q: What are the differences between all your retreat programs?

A: We have four main classifications of our retreat programs – yoga retreat, yoga detox retreat, yoga weight loss retreat as well as special retreats. The basis of all our programs is yoga and meditation and there is a core structure of daily activities shared between all programs. But depending on the specific classification, the retreat will include different elements, change in diet and/or additional activities, please check the course description pages for more information.

Q: Can I extend my stay at the centre after my retreat program is finished?

A: You are welcome to extend your stay after any of the retreat programs as long as we have availability.

Q: Can I combine retreat programs?

A: Absolutely. Many guests choose to combine two or more programs for a personalised yoga retreat. Guests frequently request to combine our 3 day Juice Fast yoga retreat with other programs for example with the 6 day Yoga Immersion Retreat creating a 9 day Yoga Immersion and Juice Fast retreat.

More personalised options are available so please inquire for details at info@purnayoga.com.np

Q: How do I get to the centre?

A: Your international flight will land in Kathamndu which is 200km away from Pokhara. You can travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara by a tourist bus (7 hrs), by taxi (5 hrs) or by a domestic flight (30min).

Once you reach Pokhara you can order our pick-up service, take a taxi to our centre or walk from Lakeside, more detailed directions can be found here

Q: Is there an easy road access to your centre?

A: Yes, there is a dirt road leading all the way up to our centre so a car can drop you off right at our doorstep

Q: Do you offer a pick-up service in Pokhara?

A: Yes, we have a pick-up service available. Pick up from Pokhara airport costs $10, from Pokhara tourist bus park $8 and from Lakeside $6. You can order your pick up in advance by emailing us on info@purnayoga.com.np or by phoning +977 9841436877

Q: Do you offer discounts on your retreat rates?

A: Our pricing is fixed and we do not offer any discounts or exchange programs. It is important to us that everyone be treated equally and therefore we do not apply any dual pricing system, every guest pays the same price for their stay.

Q: Are there any extra charges?

A: There are absolutely no extra charges on top of the retreat rates, the amount you see on the retreat program page is what you pay.

We do offer some optional extra services at an additional cost like massage, various treatments, one day workshops, sunrise yoga tour, cooking course etc. You can find more details on the Special Programs page.

Q: What kind of food do you serve?

A: All our food is wholesome and organic and we serve only vegetarian dishes at the retreat. We cook all our meals according to ayurvedic principles and the ingredients are always fresh as we grow many vegetables and source local products from nearby farms.

Q: Do you cater to special dietary requirements?

A: Yes, we can accommodate most of the special dietary requirements like lactose free, gluten free, vegan etc. Please notify us in advance of your arrival.

Q: What style of yoga do you teach?

A: Our primary yoga style is traditional Hatha yoga (pre-asanas, asanas, breathing exercises, dynamic sequences) but we frequently add elements of other yoga styles like Ashtanga, Power, Flow, Kundalini and Vinyasa for a more versatile and deeper yoga experience.

Q: What level of yoga experience should I possess before attending your retreat?

A: Our retreats are carefully tailored so that everyone can benefit and enjoy regardless of their previous yoga experience. Yoga beginners will learn a lot from our classes – from the basics up to more advanced techniques. And more experienced yogis will have a chance to polish up and deepen their practice as well as learn new innovative sequences and combinations.

Q: How experienced are your yoga teachers?

A: All of our yoga teachers have a long history of involvement with yoga and they have spent a large part of their lives discovering and learning yoga from various centres in Nepal and India, from various masters as well as through self-study to gain a deeper personal understanding.

All our teachers are yogis by heart, who are dedicated to not only "doing" yoga but "being" yoga in their daily lives. Time to time we also provide self-improvement workshops to our teachers where they can expand their knowledge of yoga by modern styles like Ashtanga, Vinyasa etc. from visiting teachers.

Q: Are you associated with any particular religion?

A: Our retreat centre is not associated with any particular religious tradition and we welcome guests of all faiths and no faiths. Please be aware however that yoga and meditation practices historically do come from the Hindu and Buddhist traditions so certain elements (like art, musical instruments, kirtan songs, mantras or chants) contain original traditional hues and make for wonderful "mood setters" but we don't attach any religious significance to any activities in our retreat centre.

Q: Is there any special code of conduct at your retreat centre?

A: Besides the non-smoking rule inside and outside all retreat buildings (there is an outside designated area for smoking), we don't have any other fast and hard rules. However we do encourage all guests to be understanding and considerate of each other, to refrain from the use of any intoxicants and to maintain low noise levels during your stay with us in order to create the most suitable environment for personal enjoyment.

Q: Do I have to take part in all the daily retreat activities?

A: All daily activities are optional so you decide yourself how to spend your time while you're with us. We took great care to prepare a daily program schedule that would be stimulating as well as leave plenty of room for relaxation but it’s ultimately up to you which activities you participate in.

Q: What should I bring with me?

A: Items of personal use like toiletries, toilet paper, additional towel, comfortable clothes for yoga, flip-flops, swimming suit, favourite book, journal and pen, water bottle, mosquito repellent (April-Sept), umbrella (June-Sept) etc.

Q: What are your accepted payment methods?

A: At present we only accept cash payments – any major currency (USD, AUD, EUR, GBP etc.) or Nepali rupee

Q: What is the best time of the year to visit your retreat?

A: You can visit us all year round. Pokhara has a sub-tropical climate with long hot summers April-Oct with day temperature between 25-32 C and mild sunny winters Nov-March with temperatures during the day between 15-20 C and cold nights. The weather is mostly clear and sunny all year round except for the monsoon season which starts in mid June and lasts till mid of Sept. During the monsoon season you can expect rain on most days but just for an hour or two, bringing some coolness, freshness and a relief from the summer heat.

Q: Are there any recreational activities available at the centre?

A: We offer aromatherapy steam bath, mud bath, fragrant Himalayan Salt foot bath, aroma steam inhalations and various massage tools for self application. We have a collection of books to read and a garden pyramid for self-meditation. If you're very keen on being more active, you can play Frisbee or badminton in our garden. You can also go for a swim in the nearby outdoor heated swimming pool at a small charge of 300rs per use.

Q: Are there internet facilities on site?

A: Yes, there is wi-fi available at the retreat center however we do encourage our guests to stay offline as much as possible. We like to promote a healthy break from the virtual world, bringing more focus to the here and now and the experience of a yoga retreat.

Q: Do you have laundry service?

A: Yes, we have a laundry service available for a small fee and this is in support of PEP Nepal youth empowerment project as 100% of this income supports our youth’s vocational training.
